SIP Calculator

Estimate the future value of a monthly SIP, with an optional yearly step-up.

How to use the SIP calculator

Enter how much you plan to invest every month, the yearly return you expect, and the number of years. If you plan to increase your SIP every year as your income grows, enter the yearly step-up percentage. The tool shows how much you will invest, the estimated gains and the estimated final value, along with year-by-year growth.

How the calculation works

The calculator simulates every month. Each instalment is added at the start of the month and the whole amount grows at the monthly equivalent of your expected return (yearly return ÷ 12). With a step-up, the monthly amount increases by the chosen percentage at the start of each new year. This month-by-month method is the same approach used by most SIP calculators in India.

Why step-up SIPs make a big difference

Try ₹5,000 a month for 15 years at 12%, first with no step-up and then with a 10% yearly step-up. The step-up version ends with a much larger value, because later, larger instalments are added while your income is higher. Many investors start small and increase their SIP with each salary hike, and the step-up option shows the effect of that habit.

Choosing a sensible return

Returns from equity mutual funds rise and fall with the market and are never guaranteed. Past returns do not predict future ones. To plan safely, try a range: a cautious rate, a moderate rate and an optimistic rate, and see how the final value changes. Debt funds usually aim for lower and steadier returns than equity funds.

Do not forget inflation

A future value of ₹50 lakh will buy less than ₹50 lakh buys today. Our guide on inflation shows how to estimate this. Our article on simple and compound interest explains why time is the most powerful factor in long-term investing.

This tool is for illustration only and is not investment advice. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; read all scheme documents carefully and consider speaking to a SEBI-registered adviser.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SIP return guaranteed?

No. The calculator assumes a constant return to give an estimate. Actual mutual fund returns vary from year to year and can be negative.

What is a step-up SIP?

A step-up or top-up SIP increases your monthly instalment by a fixed percentage every year, usually to match salary growth.

Does the calculator include taxes or fund charges?

No. Expense ratios are already reflected in a fund’s reported returns, but capital gains tax on redemption is not included.
